Self and photography

I dwell within my gaze, within my thoughts, my memories, my images. I write with the light, in other words, I photograph to record what I perceive but I still miss, what I know but is constantly elusive: myself. Photography in the city becomes a vehicle for self-knowledge and urban wandering.

Kambiz Isakhani

“I am always dreaming, yet here I feel a sadness... I feel like a war – torn city. I miss my family, my job as a tailor and my life. In Athens I like the antiquities, the restaurants and the fact that is very crowded. I want my life to get better and to be able to help the refugees. Before the photography workshop when I was looking at my selfies I was focusing only on my body and I didn’t care showing anything else. I was taking pictures at random. I didn’t ask why I am taking these photographs.  What is it hidden? What else is there to capture. My dream for the future is to become a youtuber”.

Mohammad Yousef Abdulrahim

“My name is Mohammad Yousef Abdulrahim, I’m 22 years old and I live in Athens. I’m painter. I have thrown myself into art in the age of 15 when I first painted something. My father was and artist, photographer and agriculturist. I tried to learn some things from him. Sometimes I took pictures using his camers. When I first came in Athens, I worked as an artist and thought that it would be wonderful if I could hone my skills by taking pictures with my own camera. So, I joined the photography lesson in the Curing the Limbo program. This is my story, I hope you’ve enjoyed reading it…”

Anoosh Ariamehr

“For me, photography is the love of looking. This love flows from the eyes to anything that surrounds us. According to Roland barthes, in painting, you can paint anything your heart desires even if it’s something irrational. You can paint a fish on a tree. But the essence of painting, is reallity. To capture the moment that won’t repeat itself, ever. In essence we can freeze time in every frame, to make it last forever. My impulse is to capture this reality. For me, photography is similar to writing, an ever lasting love that makes me happy. It’s been a while now since I’ve stopped writing for multiple, various reasons. This, is something difficult for me. The writting for the photos and the photo capturing for the texts I write, open up a new field of experimentation and expression”.

Qamar Husaini

“I do not know why I take the photos I take. I just love the art of photography. It’s an art that captures the moment that will become memorable thanks to the photo. In the past I liked taking photos in weddings. I loved the poses people took in order to get their photo taken. Generally I like capturing body movements. I also like taking photos of streets with trees as well as trains because I like the idea of a direction where a person can go”.
